Ortho-K for Vision Correction
What if you could reduce your reliance on glasses and contacts simply by wearing corrective lenses as you sleep? Sounds far-fetched, but the team at Innovative Eyecare can help correct your vision through orthokeratology. Better known as Ortho-K, this treatment involves wearing special contacts while you sleep that gently reshape the cornea, correcting common refractive errors that impair good vision.
How It Works
The first step to get started with Ortho-K is to visit the clinic for a comprehensive eye exam. Dr. Teichmiller will evaluate your medical history, eye health and vision needs to see if you’re an ideal candidate for Ortho-K. Once that has been established, you will be fitted with gas permeable rigid lenses.
These lenses will gently reshape your cornea overnight. Because the cornea is comprised mostly of water, it is malleable and you will feel no discomfort as it changes shape. You will simply wake up the next day able to see as if you were wearing your normal eyewear. Results last one to two days before you need to sleep in your lenses again.
Who It’s For
Because Ortho-K is a temporary, non-surgical solution, it is ideal for most adults and children who suffer from refractive errors like myopia (nearsightedness) and/or a mild degree of astigmatism. Ortho-K is also good for those who are not appropriate candidates for LASIK, and for those who work in dusty environments or play contact sports. A comprehensive eye exam with Dr. Teichmiller will determine if Ortho-K is right for you.
