Pediatric Eye Exams
At Innovative Eyecare, we understand that a child’s first eye exam can be a stressful time for them and for you. That’s why we go out of our way to make you both feel comfortable and confident before, during and after the exam.
Dr. Teichmiller spends extra time with our youngest patients to ensure they understand all aspects of an eye exam and the vital components of their visual health. Our team delights in helping children choose their first pair of glasses or contacts.
Healthy Eyes for Active Learning
Proper vision is essential to your child’s education. From reading the board to absorbing a good book, your child needs to be able to see clearly to perform well in school. Because the eyes are still developing during childhood, frequent eye exams are crucial to ensuring your child’s visual health.
Frequently Asked Questions about Pediatric Eye Exams
What is evaluated during a pediatric eye exam?
During a pediatric eye exam, Dr. Teichmiller will check for multiple visual acuity issues, including astigmatism, myopia and hyperopia. Your child will also be tested for depth-perception problems, colorblindness and tracking and teaming disorders.
My child doesn’t complain about his or her vision. Is an eye exam still necessary?
Because your child has no basis of comparison for their visual acuity, only a comprehensive eye exam performed by a licensed optometrist can guarantee they are not experiencing vision problems.
My child is screened yearly at school. Doesn’t that count?
Vision screenings done at school are limited and done without the aid of a consultation outlining family history and other risk factors. Dr. Teichmiller will test for extensive range of vision problems and make sure your child gets the attention they need.
How often does my child need an eye exam?
Because children’s eyes are still developing, they need to be examined by a licensed optometrist once a year.
