Weekly Health Update for Monday, November 28th, 2011

Mental Health: Frustrated with not getting things “done.” Successful
people get where they are because they do what needs to get done- and avoid
procrastination and distracting activities. John C. Maxwell states “Don’t do the
hardest thing first, do first things first.” Don’t buy business cards before starting
a business; go out and find clients. Don’t shop for more workout clothes, shoes
or read another article on how to get fit. Go out, today, for a walk. The sooner
we act on our goals, the faster we will see them achieved.

Diet: Eat more seeds to protect against flu & colds: Sunflower seeds, rich
in vitamin E, helps protect the body by increasing specific white blood cells
(T-cells, also known as the “fighter cells” because they attack viruses and
bacteria). Just two tablespoons of sunflower seeds provides 33% of the needed
amount of vitamin E. Try tossing them in your green salad as an alternate crunch
to croutons.

Exercise: Avoid lower leg and foot strain after workouts. More people are
reporting pain and aches after working out, especially women. Trainers weight in
that the problem is often due to incorrect form. Feet, ankles and the lower leg
bone should all face and move in the same direction when doing exercises like
lunges and squats, recommends Holly Perkins, celebrity trainer.

Optometry: How are Gentle Molding contact lenses different from regular contact
lenses
? Unlike a standard contact lens, the Gentle Molding contact lens is specially
curved to exert a gentle pressure on the eye to reshape it, resulting in improved
vision. In addition, sophisticated design technology is used to measure thousands of
points on an eye’s surface and customize the Gentle Molding lens to fit the unique
shape of each patient’s eyes.

If you would like to see if you qualify for Gentle Molding, please call our office at
256-353-1871 and schedule a free consultation.

Wellness/Prevention: Looking to prevent the seasonal rounds of colds coughs
and sniffles this year? What you eat can help boost your immune system and arm
your body with ways. According to experts, the top foods to help boost immunity
during the autumn/ winter season include: sunflower seeds, pumpkin, kale,
mushrooms, brazil nuts and garlic.

Quote: Progress always involves risks. You can’t steal second base and keep
your foot on first.
