About Us
Chris Teichmiller, OD, MPH
Dr. Chris D. Teichmiller established his full scope, primary optometric practice in Decatur over 15 years ago out of a desire to provide the highest quality and most innovative vision solutions available to his patients.
This is accomplished by offering comprehensive lifestyle, health, and vision solutions to enhance the quality of life of Dr. Teichmiller’s patients. As the most important asset of his practice, patients are made to feel comfortable when they come to his office for treatment. Through a lifestyle history, patient’s needs are identified and matched with the best possible solutions. With a sincere spirit of cooperation and teamwork, his staff of six employees are accommodating and attentive to all who are looking for solutions to their vision problems.
As a full scope, primary optometric practice, they provide co-management services for cataract, glaucoma, retinal, dry eye, and refractive surgery. A large selection of designer frames are available for those who opt for glasses. Contact lens services, including specialty and bifocal contact lenses, are fitted to meet every client’s specific needs. Dr. Teichmiller’s staff also offers customized nutritional and weight loss supplements to facilitate a healthier lifestyle.
A very special service provided by Dr. Teichmiller is Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT), which is different from any other conventional hard or soft contact lenses. With CRT, the lenses, which are similar to rigid gas permeable lenses and are FDA approved for nighttime wear, are designed to gently reshape the central part of the cornea while the patient sleeps. The lens is removed in the morning and the vision is corrected to 20/20 in most patients during waking hours. Patients with mild to moderate nearsightedness with minor astigmatism are excellent candidates for the use of CRT.
In 2004, Dr. Teichmiller was chosen by his peers to serve as President of the Alabama Optometric Association and he has participated in the Mission: Makeover project being conducted in Decatur.
Kimberly Ocampo, OD
Dr. Kim Ocampo is Decatur’s newest female optometrist. She graduated with honors from the UAB School of Optometry and began working alongside Dr. Teichmiller in 2006. While Dr. Ocampo offers comprehensive eye care services to people of all ages, she has a particular interest in the diagnosis and management of ocular disease, including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, dry eyes, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
Patients often remark on her warm, caring nature, and Dr. Ocampo prides herself on extending the same courtesy and depth of compassion to her patients as she does to her own family members. Together with her extensive training from one of the best optometry schools in the country and some of the most advanced technology available to eye care professionals, Dr. Ocampo seeks to provide the highest quality eye care services through customized exams that are uniquely tailored to each individual’s lifestyle and eye care needs.
One of the most specialized services that Dr. Ocampo offers the Decatur area is low vision evaluations to the visually impaired. She and her staff will develop a customized vision rehabilitation plan based on a person’s individual capabilities and needs. This plan may include special devices which may be prescribed to help assist with daily living activities and aid in maintaining lifestyle independence.
